Postby Randy Carter » Wed Jan 15, 2003 5:38 pm

Chirs,

Are there some instructions on the use of AVATAR for including a picture with your profile? I would like to do that, but am not familar with AVATAR.

Thanks  !

Click on the "Profile" button near the top of the board. This will take you to where you can edit your user profile. Near the bottom of this screen is where you can upload an avatar.

The avatar can be any picture (.jpg or .gif), size no larger than 120 x 80 pixels, and file size no bigger than 9k.

The profile panel will allow you to link to an existing picture if you know the url, and you can also upload a picture from your computer to the board's host computer if you like.

If you have an problems, feel free to email me directly. We'll get you all set up.

Now, time to get back out in that garage!

A wild guess....looks like you have have used too much compression when saving the file.

The basic steps are:
Resize to no larger than 120x80 pixels
set resolution to 72 dpi.

Save as gif or jpg (I think either will work). If jpeg, I'd use a quality setting of at least 85%.

Hope this helps. I'm not much of an expert at this stuff either - I've probably just been through more iterations of "trial & error" :D

Hey Jim, Chris, et al

If anyone is having a problem with getting their Avatar photo reduced, send me a copy of the pic in full resolution and I'd be happy to reduce and crop it for submission.

Tom
