Re: Crickets
Well, I received a notice about your post so I guess it's still breathing. We just need people to post questions, answers etc. to get it rolling again. I think the 3ll forum site has mostly replaced the traffic here.

Watkins Glen Vintage races
Last weekend was my first race in the ex-Bob Sharp, ex-Dick Tillinger, 1967 Datsun 2000. It was fun to be racing a roadster again as I've been racing a 240Z quite a bit the past 10 years. Thanks to Ellen Harvey and Chuck Brooks who helped me get the car ready in a marathon session the 6 weeks before...

Re: U20 Crankshaft needed
Dewey,
I don't remember the weights but that sounds about right. They are heavy duty. For a high revving race engine I use lighter aftermarket rods.

Re: U20 Crankshaft needed
The U20 crankshaft is fully counterweighted the H20 is not. I wouldn't recommend using the H20 crank in a race engine.

Re: help with engine clearance specs ?
John, The main clearance you listed is just on the high side. I would shoot for 0.0022-0.0028" measured to the closest "tenths". The piston clearance is dependent on the piston manufacturers specifications which are based on the alloy and the amount of thermal expansion the piston will undergo. Olde...

Re: Watkins Glen 2011 Vintage GP
Wow! Sorry to hear that with Datsun being the featured marque at the Glen this year. You guys should switch the order on your years/tracks.

Re: Retainers and Lash Pads
You can do that. Dean used to sell some retainers that would fit. I've also seen valves turned down to 8mm just on the ends to use L-series hardware. You'll need to machine the keeper groove as well. Next rebuild have the 8mm stem valves made and replace the guides. Less weight, better flow and easi...

Re: Retainers and Lash Pads
Ron,
Your best bet is to have some valves made with 8mm stems then you can use L-series retainers, keepers and lash pads. This is the best fix IMO.
